Jeep Safari Routes
Trans Himalayan Jeep Safari from Manali in Himachal Pradesh to
Leh in Ladakh
Region : Himachal & Ladakh
Season : Mid May-October
Duration : 2-4 days.
The jeep safari from Manali to Leh covers a distance of 472 km. The safari
can be extended to Nubra valley across Khardongla pass the highest
motor able road in the world. The drive from Manali to Leh can be completed
in 2 days. Another option could be to drive to Leh via Tsokar and Tsomoriri
Lake. For this safari a prior permission is required from the authorities
concerned. The journey starts from Manali driving through the lush green and
foggy hills offering a splendid view of Manali on the way.
Jeep Safari from Leh / Upshi/
Chumathang/ Mahe/ Puga/ Tsomoriri
Region : Ladakh / Tchang-thang
Season : July to Sep.
Duration : 6 - 7 days safari
This is one of the most treacherous expeditions in the region of Ladakh. It
is one of the most excititng routes for the adventure seekers. The safari
starts from Leh and from there it moves on to mahe via Upshi and Chumathang.
During this journey one can enjoy the villages and Gompas as we move towards
Puga. From here one can visit Tsomoriri Lake which is 28 km long and 8 kms
wide at an altitude of 4510 mts. The back move can be from salt water lake
(Tsokar) and over world's second highest Motorable pass Taglang-la (5332
mts) to Leh and flight to Delhi. Or one can also drive back to Manali
straight from Tsomoriri to end the safari in Manali and further proceed on
to Delhi either by flight or by road.
Jeep Safari from Leh to Pangong Lake
The lake of Pangong lies at about 160 km from Leh. The lake offers
spectacular views of the royal mountains and the Changla pass. The drive
begins with kaleidoscopic glimpses of Thiksey monastery which is very known
for its architectural resemblance with Potala Palace of Lhasa. The mountain
covers an entire mountain ridge. Now you can drive towards Changla pass
leaving the Leh Manali road. After reaching the Changla pass drive down to
the village of Tangtse where you can enjoy a cup of tea. Leave Tangtse in
order to reach for Pangong. You pass through the villages of Changthang and
then finally reach to the mesmerising lake of Pangong.
Nubra Valley Jeep Safari
The Nubra means "Ldumra" (the valley of flowers). It is situated
in the north of Ladakh region. The overland route to Nubra passes through
world highest motor able road, Khardong la pass (18,380 ft). The villages
laced with green forests that look stunning. Till partition Nubra valley was
one of the trade centres on the ancient famous silk route. The Bectarian
Camels (shaggy double hump Camel) can be seen around sand dune, between
Deskit and Hunder village, which was used on ancient Silk route. This safari
takes about 3-4 days to reach its final destination. There are monasteries
of Deskit and Samstaling to visit. Travelers are required to obtain permit
to visit Nubra valley.
