Paragliding in Maharastra

Kamshet is a perfect and one of the most sought after destinations for para
gliders. The village of Kamshet is located in the Pune district of
Maharastra. The area in and around the village of Kamshet is embraced by low
hills, rocky terrain, enough ideges and flatlands offers disparate
favourable sites for paragliding. The village is about 2200 feet above the
sea level and provides fair flying conditions. Kamshet is mostly suitable
for basic, intermediate and cross country flights. The topography and the
temperatures of the land allow for both ridge and thermal soaring. During
the pleasant weather conditions the tourists can not only enjoy paragliding
but also several picturesque locations from a bird's eye view.
Paragliding Sites
Tower Hill The Tower Hill is one of the widely
known sites for paragliding in Maharastra. This take off site located on a
north south ridge can be seen from the highway and can be accessed by a 30
drive and a 10 minute walk. This mountain ridge is excellent for cross
country flying thereby giving the scope of enjoying the beautiful view of
the lakes and open fields. This site hosted the Indian Nationals 2000.
Temple Hill Located at 22 km ahead of Kamshet on
the road to Pune , this site once played the host for the famous Temple
Hill Hang Gliding Trophy. This site is very conducive for paragliding
and is very useful for the beginners. A famous medieval temple of Sant
Tukaram is also located at the place.
Shelar This site is famous for training and
intermediate flying with perfect conditions for soaring and thermalling. The
site is best for long hours of evening flying in the warm company of the
vulture and eagles from December to June.
Best Season For Gliding
October to June is the best time to fly high in the sky and enjoy the sport
of paragliding in Maharastra.
