Trekking in Darjeeling

The
famous hill station of
Darjeeling
is said to be the place from where the activity of trekking is said to have
originated. The adventure sport was introduced by Jesuit Rev.Fr Macdonald.

Famous Darjeeling Treks
Tiger Hill
Time 1 day
Level easy
Ideal Season March to April, October to November
Location Near Ghoom, Darjeeling District
The hike starts from Chowrasta and then to Toongsoong-Aloo Bari-to
Jorebungalow-Senchal and then finally to Tiger Hill.
The Singalila Trek
Time 4-7 days
Level easy to moderate
Ideal Season October to mid -December, April to late May
Location Darjeeling District, North Bengal
The hike starts from Manebhanjan to Jaubari to Sandakohu to Phalut to Ramam
and then to Rimbik.
Neora Valley National Park
Time 4-5 days
Level easy o moderate
Ideal Season - March to June, October to December
Location Darjeeling district, at the tri-junction of Bhutan,
West Bengal and Sikkim.
The hike starts from Zero Point to Alubari to Rechi La to Pankhasari and
then to Lava.
Trekking Season
Trekking season in Darjeeling are two:
The first season begins in the mid of March and closes in the first week of
June. There can be occasional rainfall in the place. The second season
begins around last week of September and goes on till December. During this
season th temperature goes down and it gets extremely cold . There are
chances of snowfall in certain regions at such times.
Trekking Requisites
Before starting your trekking journey don't forget to add certain things of
great importance and need during the trip. Looking at the climatic
conditions don't miss out on warm and woolen clothes and a raincoat. One is
also advised to carry light snacks such as biscuits, nuts, raisins,
chocolates and mineral water because while trekking you can come across
certain place where you can't find food and water. Take along with you a
comfortable pair of shoes- sports shoe or hunter boots.
