Trekking in Himachal Pradesh

Trekker in Himachal Pradesh Closer to the Greater Himalayan and Zanskar range lies the captivating state of Himachal Pradesh. With its varying beauty that is adorned by lush river valleys, snow – capped peaks, fruit laden orchards and gurgling streams, Himachal Pradesh has become a prime destination for all the charlatans who love trekking. There are four mountain ranges running almost parallel to one another that creates charming valleys and passes that becomes very much suitable for trekking. There are umpteen passes on these ranges which connects various valleys together making them into good trekking routes for all types of trekkers. There are about two dozen passes on the Dhauladhar, a dozen over the Pirpanjal range and 8-10 such passes over the Great Himalayas range to cross over to the Zanskar valley. The mountain ranges makes the climate of Himachal Pradesh extremely cold. Majority of trekking routes fall in the regions that are perennially cold.

Trekking Requisites
Trekking in Himachal Pradesh requires a lot of preparation as the climate here too cold and one needs to have adequate woolen clothing to brave the cold wintry climate. For moderate treks the best season is from June to October. It is generally suggested to avoid trekking in winters.

Trekking Routes of Himachal Pradesh
Beas Kund Trek
Time – 3 days
Level - easy
Ideal season – June to October
Location – In Kullu District, to the source of the river Beas from above Manali.

Triund and Indrahar Pass Trek
Time – 2-5 days
Level - moderate
Ideal season – May to June, September to October
Location – Indrahar Pass lies across the Dhauladhar Range between Kangra and Chamba districts.

Jalori Pass Trek
Time – 3-8 days
Level - easy
Ideal Season -May to November
Location -Inner and outer Seraj area of the Kullu District

Bhrigu Lake Trek
Time – 2 days
Level - moderate
Ideal Season -July to October
Location – Above Manali in upper Beas Valley in Kullu District

Chander Tal Trek
Time – 12 days
Level -moderate
Ideal Season -June & September - October

Pin Parvati Spiti Trek
Time – 12 days
Level - demanding
Ideal season – June to September
Location – This trek is in the Spiti sub division of Lahaul and Spiti District
