Wanna take a break from the smouldering summer blaze? If yes then, plan a
trip to Mount Abu, after all it is one of the coolest spots in the
overheated land of Rajasthan and best referred as an oasis of the desert.
This hill station once served as a summer resort for the Chauhan Rajputs.
However it began to work as the headquarters of the British Rajputana
Residency later. The entire place is adorned with lush foliage and a rich
and diverse variety of flora and fauna.
Prime Draws Of Mount Abu
Dilwara Jain Temples The Dilwara Temples are the
most wannabe attractions of Mount Abu.These wonderfully carved Jain Temples
date back to the 11th and 13th centuries A.D. These are rated as the finest
temples of India and are considered too sacred for the Jains. The marble
architecture here is outstanding and beyond any comparison.
Vimala Vasahi Temple Built in 1030 A.D by
Vimala Shah, this temple is the oldest among the other temples in the
complex and is dedicated to Lord Adinath. The temple has been designed in an
austere fashion on the outside and took about 14 years in completion.
Neminath Temple Built in 1230 A.D, this temple is
dedicated to Neminath, the 22nd tirthankara. It is told that gold and
silver, equivalent in weight to that of the marble was given to the workers
who worked on or sculpted the temple. This temple is built in the Solanki
style of architecture and is shaped like a wonderful lotus flower.
Gomukh Temple The temple is located at about 2 Kms
from Mount Abu and is the site of the ancient agnikunda , where legend has
it that sage Vashistha performed the great fire sacrifice. The temple
contains an image of Vasistha along with images of Lord Rama and Lord
Krishna, both of whom are considered to be incarnations of Vishnu, the
Preserver of the Hindu trinity.
Nakki Lake - The lake derives its name from the belief
that it was emerged out of the earth by the fingernails (nakk) of the gods.
The lake is the focal point of tourist activity in Mt. Abu. The lake is
thronged by great number of tourists all the year round and enjoy boating.
