The
Deccan Odyssey is the latest brainchild of the Indian Railway and MTDC
(Maharastra Tourism Development Corporation). In collaboration with the Taj
Group of hotels, the Indian Railway has created this five star hotel on
wheels. It is said that if
Rajasthan
is graced by the Palace On Wheels , Maharastra proudly echoes with the
Deccan Odyssey. This luxury train gives an immense scope to the travellers
to capture the beautiful forts and palaces, temples and beaches and culture
and landscape of the Deccan.
Deccan Odyssey The Making
The Railway Ministry and the MTDC( Maharashtra Tourism Development
Corporation) signed a MOU for the Deccan Odyssey in February 2001. The
Railway Board go-ahead signal was flashed in May 2002. It took around five
months to finalize the design of the coaches and other five months in the
construction of the same. The train finally got shaped in in the late 2003.
On January 16th, 2004 the Deccan Odyssey started its maiden journey from
Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus ,
Mumbai.

The journey in Deccan Odyssey is for seven days alias a week. The tour
includes several exotic destinations covering major hot spots of Maharastra
and a bit of
Goa. The
Mumbai, Ganpatipule, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Goa, Pune,
Aurangabad,
Ajanta and Ellora
routes offer enriching experience that proves to be the best train
experiences in the world. Deccan Odyssey has in store all the comforts and
luxuries of a five star hotel. It has the capacity to hold 104 people and
has 21 luxury coaches with all the modern amenities like cyber cafe, mobile
phone, sauna bath, six-channel music, TV, DVD and massage-cum-beauty parlor
among many others.
Other Facilities
Accommodation: There are 13 fully air-conditioned deluxe
saloons for passengers. Out of which 11 are passenger cars. Each of 13 coach
is well equipped with facilities like attached toilets, running hot and cold
water, shower, wall to wall carpeting, channel music, intercom, CD/MP3
player, and many more like them.
Restaurants: There are two lavishly decorated restaurants named as Peshwa I
and Peshwa II serving you with mouth watering exotic array of dishes.
Bar: A well maintained bar car is attached to cater the
drinking needs of passengers. It serves you liquor of Indian and
International Brands.
