Chardham Yatra

Nestling
in the lofty peaks are the four most holy pilgrimages of India- Yamunotri,
Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, collectively referred to as the Char
Dham. For centuries, saints and pilgrims, in their search for the divine,
have walked these mystical vales known in the ancient Hindu scriptures as "
Kedarkhand".
Holy confluences, scenic surroundings and an aura of spiritual serenity
make an ideal abode for the Gods and are a refreshing reward for the
pilgrims who visit from all over the country.
Traditionally, the yatra is done from the west to the east- starting from
Yamunotri, then proceeding to Gangotri and finally to Kedarnath and
Badrinath.
The Journey begins.
Yamnotri
The shrine of Yamunotri, situated at an elevation of about 3,235 mts. is a
point of paramount religious importance for Hindus and an essential
pilgrimage. Situated in the direction opposite to Gangotri, the road
bifurcates from a place called Dharasu, somewhere between
Rishikesh -
Uttarkashi and goes on to Yamunotri. The shrine can also be visited via
Mussoorie and Barkot.

- Road: The road to Yamunotri diverts from Rishikesh - Gangotri
road at Dharasu.
Gangotri
This sacred shrine, situated at an altitude of 3,200 mt is the of the river
Bhagirathi. It is surrounded by the mountain peaks of Shivaling, Satopanth
and Bhagirathi sisters. One of the most pious Hindu Pilgrimages. Accessible
by a motorable road, it is one of the most pious Hindu Pilgrimages.

and 265 kms. from Gangotri
- Rail: Nearest railhead is at Rishikesh, 248 kms. away
- Road: Gangotri is connected by road to Uttarakashi, Tehri
Garhwal and Rishikesh and from there to other parts of the country.
Kedarnath
The Kedarnath shrine, one of the 12 jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, is a scenic
spot situated, against the backdrop of the majestic Kedarnath range. At an
altitude of 3,581 mt it is a 14 km trek from Gaurikund.

- Rail : Nearest Railway station, Rishikesh, 221 Kms.
- Road : Kedarnath is approachable on foot from Gaurikund,
which is connected by road with Rishikesh, Kotdwar, Dehradun, Hardwar
and other important hill stations of Garhwal and Kumaon hills.
Badrinath
Badrinath, one of the' Four Dhams', is one of the most celebrated
pilgrimage spots of the country and is situated at an elevation of 3,133
mts., guarded on either side by the two mountain ranges known as Nar &
Narayan with the towering Neelkanth Peak providing a splendid back-drop.
This revered spot was once carpeted with wild berries. Thus the place got
the name "Badri van", meaning "forest of berries
