Major Attractions in Pune
National Defence Academy Famous as NDA, this
training centres for the future defense officers is a must sees of Pune. The
Academy is located in Khadakwasala, which is 17 kms away from the main city
of Pune. NDA is the only Academy of its kind where training for all the
three forces are provided. Seeing the cadets taking training amidst the lush
green environment offers a unique experience to the tourists.
Raja Kelkar Museum This museum was started by Baba
Dinkar Kelkar in 1962. The museum houses around 20,000 different articles
amassed by Kelkar from Mughal and Maratha period. However the major
attraction of the museum is the various kinds of musical instruments that
have been kept here. The museum remains opens throughout the week.
Shaniwar Wada The Shaniwar Wada is the 18th century
palace of the Peshwas. The palace's foundation was laid by Baji Rao I. The
palace was burnt down in a fire but the remains of this wonderful palace
still amuses every visitor with its royal feel. The walls of the palace are
painted with scenes from Ramayana and Mahabharata. There is also a sixteen
petal lotus shaped fountain that attracts the tourists from all over
the world to Pune.
Aga Khan Palace The Aga Khan Palace is a must visit
destination when in Pune. The palace houses a famous Gandhi National Museum.
Gandhiji along with his wife Kasturba were interned at this palace after the
Quit India Movement where Kasturba died. Her samadhi(grave) lies near the
palace. In the museum one can find the letters, pictures and other records
telling the tale of the Father of the Nation.
